Mallard Indian Runner Ducks
The Mallard Runner Duck is a standard variety of the Indian Runner duck breeds. Their overall coloring similar to a traditional Mallard Ducks, but possessing the same upright carriage of other Runner duck breeds. Also known as the Gray Runner duck, the Mallard Runner duck is not a large breed, but stands tall and upright in stature with a long straight neck and flat head.
Indian Runner ducks in general are a bit temperamental and even frantic at times. They are easily startled, and their flocking mentality can cause quite a stir if they are in a larger group. This can make for an entertaining, sensitive, and unique pet in many situations.
Mallard Indian Runner Ducks are bred primarily for exhibition and uniqueness, but like all other Indian Runner Ducks they are excellent layers of duck eggs. They are not commonly bred as meat ducks because of their small stature.
The Grey or Mallard Runner duck is generally preferred to be too smaller. Their strong legs, smooth, quick stride make them a desired show bird. Their superb foraging abilities also establish this breed as great pest controllers. People love Mallard Runner Ducks as pets to have around the farm or in the garden. Their rareness makes them a prized member of any flock.
