Black Australorp Chickens
One of the most prolific egg laying breeds in the world, the Black Australorp Chickens were first developed in Australia. This breed is known for being a quality egg-laying chicken without compromising the bird’s size and quality of meat. The result was just that as they created one of the most popular backyard and dual-purpose chickens to this day.
After setting all sorts of egg-laying records in Australia, the Black Australorp was finally introduced into North America in the 1920s. They are known for its ability to continually produce eggs even when it its extremely hot. When hens stop laying, they are still large enough to be utilized for their meat.
Calm, docile, and content in confinement, the Black Australorp is a little smaller than their Orpington ancestor, though cocks can still weigh in around 8.5 pounds. Covered in glossy and iridescently black feathers, this bird shows off a beautiful greenish purple hue in the sunlight. Both females and male wear a straight, medium sized red comb adorned with 5 distinct and regal points. Black Australorp chicks may wear some white on their wing tips but will be solid black by the time they are fully matured.

This is the third time I have ordered from
e Fowl. Always great service and fast delivery. Chicks always do great.
Julie Townsley –
From the purchase of this chicken breed of the past, that I have purchased, they are great eggs layers. Almost everyday you get an egg. The big star rating that I am giving them today is that out of all the chicks that I ordered the Black Australorp chicks survived the shipping trip. I purchased them in February, in which there was a freeze right at the time of my shipping. Almost half of my chicks died. But all of the Black Australorps survived. They are tuff little cookies. Great thing about e-Fowl is that they refunded me for those that didn’t make it. I don’t think I will ever order chicks in February again!

Great foragers, a joy to have on farm.

This little guys are brave and feisty. They already come running when I call because they know I’m bringing their treats!
Glory Gooding –
Hard to rate based on 2 week old chicks, but all arrived happy and healthy.
David Ozuna –
Strong and good looking birds. Very happy with them.
the doctor –
good place to deal with – happy to return for third year now. birds well packed with extra’s just in case since things can happen in transit. happy little chirps. last years birds grew well and are giving nice eggs – well not the roosters… lol. nice to hear the sound of a rooster and watch him guarding his little flock when on walk about. extra roosters made it to freezer camp.
great layers! the deserve the reputation for producing lots of cackle berries

Chicks are doing well they were way to young when I received them but they are okay now

This is the 2nd time we have received black australorps from e-fowl. All chicks arrived alive. One chick seems to have thin down on its back, but otherwise seems healthy.

I like the looks of theses chicks. I ordered 28 of theses and 5 barred rocks at the same time. the weather went to crap (to cold) and there were 4 dead when I got them, and 3 more died the next day. Now they did send me 2 more then I ordered and the gave me store credit for two that were dead when I got them. So I cant complain. will order again.( IN WARMER WEATHER)

I placed and order online for 25 chicks (15 Australorps and 10 Marans). The only positive thing I can say is that they were shipped on time. I only received 20 chicks, when I called customer service I was told I would receive a credit for the missing chicks, I have not. I am a very experienced poultry raiser (I raise 800-1200 chickens a year on my small farm) I have never had the losses like I have had with these chicks of the 20 that actually arrived only 7 made it past 24 hours. I have left multiple phone messages with eFowl, they have yet to contact me.

Hi Allison,
Thank you for your note. Sorry for all the trouble you’ve had. It looks like we’ve been in touch over the past few days via email, and you opted for a store credit for the lost / shorted chicks, which we’ve issued. To use that credit, simply login online and it will be automatically applied towards any new order. If you would prefer a refund as you do not want to order from us again, that is fine, we can certainly change the credit to a refund. Simply contact us as [email protected] if you would prefer that. ~Austin, CSR

Well in the past efowl delivered my package to my address speedy. Twice they printed the wrong label for my address. Resulting in the first order dying the second I picked up on my third day at the post office. This was stressfull to the birds out of 50 chicks only 7 survived perhaps due to cold weather in the future I’ll be sure to order during spring or summer or incubate the eggs
Terri Bates –
Lost 2 of 5 chicks
Sierra Thompson –
All five were alive healthy and very nice birds. Couldn’t be happier. The rest of my order didn’t make the cold 3 day delivery but a huge 5 stars to the eFowl customer service team.! They refunded me and I’ve ordered more as weather is warming up.

I highly recommend efowl to my friends. Above average communication and healthy birds. We have bought birds from them twice and both orders went well.

I ordered 10- received 11. Thank you. We are a week in, and haven’t lost any of them yet!! They are happy and healthy! Pleased with these peepers.
Heath Ransom –
Ordered 13 female and 2 male and Efowl sent me 18 total.. Unfortunately It was super cold when I ordered and we lost 3.. They are amazing and very healthy. My advice would be to check weather.. Post office got them to us in less than 2 days. So great job on everyone’s part..We love our chicks..
Lori Cousins –
First time I ordered chicks during cold weather, had 10 die in first 3 days. Not your fault, mail truck delayed and was on truck longer than they should have been. Others are thriving and doing well.
Robert Saunders –
All birds arrived safely and are doing fine. Eating and drinking well and growing rapidly.
Renee Brown –
All arrived healthy and alive. Post office had reported 5 days for shipping but I called eFowl and was told that was incorrect and I should get my chicks in 3 days. Great customer service. Great experience.
Gustavo Oliva –
The shipment was delayed and I loss 7 chicks due to the delay. It wasn’t E Fowls fault but the postal delivery’s fault. They shipped the chicks 120 miles from the address that it was suppose to go to. Received the order on the 3rd day late in the afternoon.
James Johnson –
We have use eFowl fo a few years now and they are second to none. They provide a great selection of live birds. In our case chicks. we cannot be happier! We received, once again, a great bunch of healthy pullets! Awesome products and service from eFowl once again. Thank you!!

Good looking batch of chicks all but one are doing very well.
Elizabeth Hooks –
We only ordered 5 of these since we have never had this breed before. They are all doing very well after 6 days, including the extra chick they included in the shipping.
William Wilde –
Well I wish I bought more as I sold 1/2 of what I ordered at a profit. The birds are well and learning to tolerate my Lab puppy, who is learning the difference between chickens and game birds. My wife has taken to to a rooster and making him a pet…..city girl. Hell if need be I would eat the Lab.
Jana Toran –
This is my first time buying chicks in 15 years and eFowl delivered as promised and provided me with helpful information.
Herson Sosa –
The shipment was fast and smooth and all chicks are happy and healthy
James Stinson –
Healthy chicks shipped on time!! Pretty awesome customer service too. Had them shipped from Iowa to Austin with no dead birds out of 310 shipped
Denise Boyer Curtis –
all are doing well – I even got one extra! Thanks!
arrived in very good shape.
Kristine Spencer –
All the chicks arrived healthy and happy. We had a small enclosure ready for them with food, water and a bit of heat. After they lost all their fuzz and put on feathers we moved them to a large coop and they are all doing well. I like the mix we purchased. The Buff Orpingtons, Easter-Eggers and Black Austalorps all are friendly breeds and seem to learn from each others strengths. Thanks again! On a side note, it seems because of the bird flew that has hit the U.S. this past year, pickings were slim for chicks at retailers and their mixed runs were predominately roosters with few hens. Ordering from e-Fowl assured us we got exactly the mix of birds we wanted.
michael stump –
very satisfied, will order more in the spring. Healthy upon arrival.
Greg Brown –
I have lost four (4) little chicks but I guess that is not to bad. You can’t expect to raise everyone of them.
Jonathan Kupkowski –
The speed with which the chicks arrived was about 1/4 what your website suggested and 1/5 of the time suggested when I called to confirm you cousin still ship the chicks prior to ordering. Though getting gets fast most days is excellent it did make sudden plan changes necessary to accommodate. They all arrived alive an well and there are no signs of major issues with them at this young age. Thanks for the quick work.
Victor Nebeker –
Arrived safely, growing, wing feathers are starting to show. We did loose one. No reason, just didn’t live.
We are happy, pleased and satisfied.
THANKS.
Katie Neal –
Received chicks in a timely manner…they were all healthy and after almost a week they’re still alive, growing and putting on feathers..great transaction. Thank you!
Gini Nichols –
