California White Chicken is a cross between the popular and prolific egg laying Leghorn Chicken and the Production Black Chicken that was developed by Ideal Poultry in the 1960s. This hybrid gives you prolific egg laying along with superior vigor and hardiness. The California White will lay large and smooth-shelled white eggs, and its hybrid characteristics is its laying longevity compared to other common egg layers.
Another great trait of the California White Chicken is that it weighs in a bit larger that other commercial white egg layers like the Leghorn, so when it quits producing it will dress out to a substantial amount of meat.
The California White is a vocal chicken and active bird as well as an excellent forager. They are a fast growing bird, but due to their vigor they may not grow quite as quickly as the typical Leghorn.
