The Blue Indian Runner ducks or Cumberland Blue ducks are another colorful addition to the extensive Indian Runner Family.
The Blue Runner is an avid forager, picking out slugs, snails, bugs, and pests found in the garden or yard. Innovative gardeners and farmers raise Blue Runner ducklings to act as a natural, eco-friendly, green pesticide for their gardens. Check out the Black, Fawn and White, and Chocolate Runners as well as other standard colored runners.
As a distinguished egg laying breed, the Blue Runner hen can yield between 100 and 300 eggs per year. The Blue Runner duck will rival the best hens in annual egg production. However, it’s versatility as a farm animal is what led to vast popularity among duck breeders. Runners yield small amounts of meat that tastes similar to wild duck but is not typically known for it’s table quality.
It is important to note, as with any other blue duck, blue x blue matings with the Blue Indian Runner duck should produce approximately 1/4 black, 1/2 blue, and 1/4 silver ducklings.
The useful qualities, amusing demeanor, and appealing color of the Blue Indian Runner ducks make great additions to any flock.
