White Muscovy Ducks
The White Muscovy is a large duck with several unique and desirable attributes which make them attractive to a wide range of owners. They are striking in appearance with primarily white plumage and a bright red crest around the eyes and above the beak.
White Muscovies feature sharp claws with allow them to roost and perch in trees. These provide the White Muscovy duck with an excellent defense mechanism against most common duck predators. In addition to their predator survivability, the White Muscovy duck is highly adaptable to varying environments. While a tropical bird by origin, these birds can thrive in icy climates with temperatures dropping as low as 10˚F.
The meat of the White Muscovy is very low in fat with a delectable taste similar to roasted beef. This is unique from other ducks in that they are a lean and nutritional fowl. White Muscovies produce a significant amount of meat including a large breast fillet, especially from the larger males.
As far as pets, White Muscovy ducklings are a great choice primarily due to their survivability. While the red crests on their heads are renown for the aesthetic beauty, there is no doubt that the White Muscovy Duck makes for one of the most exotic and unique pets available. |
