Speckled Sussex Chicken

Speckled Sussex Chickens are an old English breed developed over a hundred years in Sussex County, England. The Speckled Sussex is one of the best possible choices for a backyard chicken because of its beautiful coat of feathers, curious and mellow personalities, and excellent dual purpose utility.

The Sussex is a medium sized heavy breed of chicken with a long deep body that is excellent for fattening. It has pinkish white skin and will dress well for the table. The Speckled Sussex is a dependable layer of medium to large sized brown eggs. It is a heavy breed and not a good flyer so it is easily fenced and handles confinement well. This hardy breed will continue to lay strong throughout the colder months of the year.

The beautiful plumage of the Speckled Sussex is not only pleasing to the eye, but it helps to camouflage the bird from potential predators such as fox, coyotes, possums, and raccoons. They will molt every year and their coat will fill in with more speckled feathers than before, so that this beautiful bird gets even more colorful each year. The Speckled Sussex is a useful and beautiful addition to any backyard flock.

Mostly DOA April 25, 2015
Reviewer: Thomas Putnam from taft, TX United States
First off, customer service was great.  Not hard to get a refund at all and they were very understanding and quick to respond.  However, I am severely disappointed with the quality of product I received.  I had to take two days off of work to watch most of my purchase die in my hands.  The chicks took three days to arrive, which I am told is rare, but since I have only shopped here once, 100% of my orders have arrived late.  They could barely stand upon arrival and I only managed to get 5 warmed up and nursed back to health.  Whether the long delay was the fault of Efowl's or USPS, my first experience ordering from Efowl was a terrible one.  I know that losses will always happen, but to loose 2/3 of ones order, even on a small order is unacceptable.  Due to this experience, I would be hard pressed to order live chicks from Efowl again.

Healthy, Active Chicks. February 16, 2015
Reviewer: James Calhoun from La Vernia, TX United States
Very pleasing to see the chicks arrive and so full of energy.  Now, at two weeks they are continuing to thrive, running around, flapping their wings and doing short flights in the brooder.  The only issue (and taken care of easily) was a two day case of sticky butt on all the Speckled Sussex chicks. Only losing one chick and it may have been a weak chick to begin with.  Overall, happy with this purchase.

2 down February 9, 2015

These chicks seem a bit smaller than the other chick's in the shipment.   Lost 2.  Might ship separately from other chicks.  Seems like they were the results of being walked on.  E-fowl reimbursed me for what I turned in.   Overall quite satisfied with purchase.
