Saxony Ducks

The Saxony duck is heavy breed of German origin. The drake Saxony is colored similar to a Rouen with a more muted coloration. The lush greens of the are replaced by duller grays and lighter blacks.

Along with making unique and exotic pets, Saxony ducklings are raised for two key farming purposes - they are strong egg layers and also yield a high quality poultry meat.

While these birds are relatively large, their bodies are compact and streamlined. Characterized by broad shoulders and a prominent chest, Saxony ducks are regarded as a highly distinct and even a designer breed. Various waterfowl and poultry shows will have highly competitive breeders seeking to display their Saxony's desirable traits such as strong color definition and exemplary posture.

Saxony Ducks are excellent foragers and many people are able to leverage this trait to their advantage. The birds will clean up yards of undesirable insects and slugs while not damaging the grass or other plants.

These birds make excellent pets, as they have a calm temperament and rarely exhibit flighty or aggressive tendencies.
