Leghorn Chickens for Sale

We offer 9 varieties of the Leghorn Chicken, though not all are recognized as standard breeds by the American Poultry Association. Leghorn Chickens originated in Italy some time in the 18th Century and they were first brought to the United States sometime around the 1930s. The first Leghorn to be admitted by the American Poultry Association was the White Leghorn Chicken.

The Leghorn, specifically the White Variety has been bred extensively to become the most productive white egg laying chicken breed, and certain crosses of the White Leghorn Chicken are the most commonly used chicken for commercial white egg production. Leghorns are a small breed of chicken and will not produce much fowl meat. For a good Dual Purpose breed that functions as a meat bird and egg layer, check out our Heavy Breeds.
