Khaki Call Ducks
One would think the beautiful Khaki Call duck is a relative of the Khaki Campbell based on the name. However, this light brown bird is actually more similar to the Saxony and Pastel Call in color, with slightly darker hues.
Khaki Call ducks are a unique breed of duck with a very boisterous function. They were bred to have loud, high pitched voices which made them an excellent hunting tool for calling in other ducks. Also, their small size enabled easy portability as hunters take them into the field to use as decoys. Thus, Khaki Call ducks would serve as decoys, bringing wild ducks into hunter's traps or gun range.
The first records of the ingenious breeding and use of Khaki Call ducks come from the Netherlands. However, their place of origin is disputed amongst experts. Many believe they originated in the Far East.
Now, Khaki Call ducks are bred mainly as show birds and pets. They are very energetic and active, making them delightful pets. Their function as hunting tools is less typical today, as they are used primarily for decoration and enjoyment. |
