Jumbo Cornish Cross Chicken

The Jumbo Cornish Cross, or Cornish Rock Cross took over the commercial chicken meat industry within the last fifty years and is an extensively developed cross between Cornish and White Rock Chickens. The Cornish Cross Boilers are so successful and popular because of their outstanding speed of growth and quality of meat. Males can reach up to 4.5 pounds after just 6 weeks and up to 9.5 after 11 weeks.

The hens are typically marketed as Cornish Game Hens and can reach up to 2.5 pounds around 5 weeks. It's recommended to harvest the hens around 3 pounds for the most tender broiler meat.

The Broiler Chickens, as they are also commonly referred to, have white feathers and yellow skin. They are also preferred for broiler birds because they lack the hair on the skin that is typical to many other breeds. This breed of chicken is bred specifically for its meat and due to its exceptionally fast growth its legs will not be able to healthily support its body after a certain point. It is also not recommended to breed this bird because keeping the bird healthy long enough to fully mature and breed properly is difficult, and the offspring of this breed will not create as successful of offspring.

Nice, large birds December 3, 2014
Reviewer: A. Johnson from Tacoma, WA United States
I've ordered these chicks twice so far and can only recommend them. They all arrived healthy each time, no losses during shipping. Since I heard about them being prone to heart and leg problems, I fed them normal chick starter for the first 6 weeks so their skeleton had a chance to grow before putting on weight. I fed them a high-protein feed after that, and they rapidly gained weight. If you keep them on pasture and don't keep feed in front of them 24/7 they will be as active and healthy as other chickens. Their meat is nice and flavorful, too.

Cornish cross birds October 31, 2014
Reviewer: Steffi Paschke from Minden, NV United States
This was my first order from eFowl and my first try at raising meat birds. My experience couldn't have been any better so far. I ordered 15 and got 4 extra. The chicks looked very healthy when they arrived (they shipped in 1 day). Only one has died to date, and I think it died of overeating on day 6. I knew that they needed their food taken away after a week or so, but I guess it needs to be taken away on day 3 or 4 to be safe. Right now everybody is looking great. I work, so feeding time is morning and night and the little buggers do well with that. I am very happy with my purchase from eFowl and can't wait to order ducklings in the spring!

Reviewer: William Sullivan from Cuyler, NY United States
Chicks arrived in good health and within two days as promised. I have been feeding them for about a week now and they are doing well and eating me out of house and home. Thanks for the great prices and healthy chicks you always provide us with. :)
