Delaware X Hampshire Crosss Chicken
The
Delaware X Hampshire Cross Chicken is a hybrid breed developed by Cackle Hatchery to create an extremely healthier bird with more vigor than it's parent stock. Also known as the
Indian River, the breed is a cross between a
Delaware Rooster and a
New Hampshire Hen. The breed will be large and hardy, and it is an excellent layer of brown eggs. The
Delaware chicken was once a leader in the broiler industry before quickly being usurped by the
Jumbo Cornish Cross, so this cross will produce a chicken that makes an excellent dual purpose meat bird.
This
hybrid breed will have the coloration of the
Delaware, meaning they will be predominately white feathered and will leave little coloration when plucked for processing. This attribute along with it's excellent egg laying abilities that come from its mother stock, the
New Hampshire Chicken make this a superb dual purpose chicken breed.
