Crevecoeur Chicken
The
Crevecoeur Chicken is a rare chicken breed that comes from the Normandy Province of France. It is thought that the
Crevecoeur Chicken was developed from the
Polish Chicken due to the crest of feathers on its head. The
Crevecoeur Chicken is similar to the Polish Chicken and the Houdan Chicken, but the
Crevecoeur Chicken is slightly larger than the Polish and only four toes, unlike the Houdan chicken with five.
The
Crevecoeur Chicken was originally raised for meat and egg production, but being easily outdone in both categories it is now kept and bred primarily for ornamental and exhibition purposes in North America and England.
Crevecoeur Chickens are considered a
Fancy Breed because of their crested head, and they also have a very unique V-Shaped comb that distinguishes it from other breeds of chicken.
This chicken breed is not especially docile and needs plenty of exercise, but it is still able to tolerate confinement. The
Crevecoeur Chicken is not cold hardy and needs refuge from cold and wet conditions. This is a very unique and interesting bird and a good choice for an ornamental bird enthusiast or breeder of rare chickens.
