Black Minorca Chicken

The Minorca Chicken is the heaviest breed of chicken in the . The Minorca Chicken is an ancient breed coming from Spain that was said to be known to the Ancient Romans. The Minorca Chicken is also known as the Red Faced Black Chicken because of it's huge red comb and large red waddles.

Minorca Chickens tend to be flight around humans sometimes and the are not particularly docile in character. They are an active breed but can tolerate confinement. Because of their extremely large combs and waddles that are susceptible to frostbite, the Minorca Chicken can not tolerate extremely cold temperatures.

The Minorca Chicken is bred primarily as an ornamental breed, but many breeders and chicken owners value their ability to lay extra large white eggs. They are also a quickly maturing breed; the hens will begin to lay at an early age and the cocks will crow when they are young as well. The Minorca Chicken is a large, muscular chicken with a full tail. The cocks weigh up to 9 pounds and the hens, 7 pounds.
