Black Call Ducks
Black Call Ducks have a striking black plumage, with hints of iridescent green. They exhibit a similar coloration to the
Cayuga Duck. Some of these call ducks will have white bibs on their chests, almost like a miniature
Black Swedish.
These birds were bred to be much louder than their larger counterpart. They were originally bred to provide hunters with an authentic duck call to use in the field when hunting other ducks. The first records of the ingenious breeding and use of
Black Call Ducks to call in other ducks come from the Netherlands. However, their place of origin is disputed amongst experts. Many believe they originated in the Far East.
Being very energetic and active,
pet Black Call Ducks are common through the US today. Their function as hunting tools is less typical, as they are used primarily for decoration and enjoyment.
They are relatively difficult to breed, but easy to care for. This makes them very sought after, but at times hard to obtain.
Black Call Ducks are certain to be a prized bird in any flock that is lucky enough to have them.
